H2 Part 1: Jungle of Terror
P Search and rescue jungle hex crawl. Ends in rescuing villagers from slaver outpost in the jungle. As part of the trilogy, the rescued villagers reveal, that the remaining captives have been brought to the impenetrable Black Fortress. Lord Xargo is in command of the attacks to capture slaves. The adventure end in a battle at the slaver outpost where the party can find some communication between Xargo and Vorkon hinting at the ruins of Nalvaar. To find a way to the Black Fortress, they must first go there.
H3 Notes
P What makes this adventure special? - village siege! Defend the village, wave after wave, retreat until there is
P no room left, escape through secret tunnel. - The players start probably in the tavern, have to decide how to best protect the villagers, someone points out the best defense might be in the chapel/temple, because there is a secret escape tunnel. Sneak over, save some villagers and escape. Ultimately most of the villagers get captured. - jungle hexcrawl (see Cursed Scroll 4) - make it strange and magical! - points of interest with side quests - Breadcrumbs: captured enemy soldier, letters, maps, tapestries - Elves are living in the jungle. They are reclusive but usually trade with the village. They know the location of the ruins of Nalvaar. Also "nalvaari" is their elven word for "fool". - Add one magic item
H3 The Jungle
P This dense primeval forest is filled with strange flora and fauna. It feels like an unending green labyrinth with eyes in the underbrush, watching the party’s every step.
H3 The Elves
P Here’s the thing about the elves. They still remember the city Nalvaar before it fell into ruin ages ago. They also know about the machine the Nalvaari have built back then and want nothing to do with the whole business. As long as the overlords have kept their evil business to the city ruins and the black fortress, the elves just kept to themselves. But now they are conflicted because the overlords begin to intrude into the forest, probably cutting down trees to build their forward base and causing all sort of trouble.
P This even causes some conflict among the elves. Some younger want to attack the Overlords and drive them back, while the older elves actually remember the Nalvaari and don’t want to draw the attention of the overlords. Lately Lord Xargo has even captured some of the elves.
P The party will have the chance to get valuable information, if they help the elves in some manner. Also if they manage to get the elves on their side, they will help them later in the attack on the slaver camp.
P There are at least two elven settlements in the area. One is high in the tree tops, the other is in a hidden vale. To enter it, you have to follow a rushing river that disappears into a massive cavern mouth. On the other side of the cave tunnel, it opens up into a lush sunken vale, ringed by towering vine draped cliffs. A large waterfall is cascading down the cliffside into the valley. The elven buildings are at ground level, naturally woven into the landscape. So far this village seems to be safe, but there needs to be some kind of sign of the looming danger. maybe the river carries some debris from a logging camp, an enemy scout was found near the cave entrance or elves have not returned from travels outside.
H3 Eyes in the Jungle - Beastmen
P While the party makes their way through the dense and primeval forest, they often feel like they are being watched. And if it is not by the watchful Elves, they are most likely being stalked by the Beastmen of the jungle.
P These ape-faced creatures live in tribes around the jungle and are not automatically aggressive, except when their sacred burial grounds are disturbed. Their armor is made from bone and leather and they use crude weapons like wooden clubs, axes are bronze tipped spears. They value raw power over reason, with some tribes even under the influence of Lord Xargo’s commands.

H2 Part 2: Ruins of Nalvaar
P Treasure hunt in ancient city ruins. Ends in retrieving valuable treasure and artifact from orrery puzzle vault. As part of the trilogy the artifact is necessary to defeat the evil overlords of the Black Fortress. Lord Vorkon oversees excavations of his cultists in the ruins. Should have a city map like The City of Masks! Multiple districts. Mostly eerie and empty, but parts of the ruins are inhabited. Maybe there are automatons in some parts?
H3 Notes
P What makes this adventure special? - city adventure, but in ruins - Raiders of the Lost Ark! Find the treasure while the enemy forces search for it as well. This part of the trilogy is a classic Indiana Jones/Uncharted adventure. - city map (see Cursed Scroll 6) - volvelle puzzle General notes: - location of the Black Fortress is found in the city ruins - Vorkon holds worship service twice a day - Add one magic item

H3 History of the Nalvaari
LB technologically advanced. they build the ancient machination as a healing device
LB after a while some upper class Nalvaari realized, they could live forever, if they feed living creatures to the machine
LB the artificier had created a fail-safe artifact to reverse the machines effect, if placed inside it. He hid the artifact in the orrery vault.
LB the upper class Nalvaari used the device with devastating effect. They fed their whole population to it until only three where left: Xargo, Vorkon and Malcarra. This is how the Nalvaari vanished and the city fell into ruin.
H2 Part 3: Slaves of the Black Fortress
P A jailbreak heist to infiltrate the Black Fortress and rescue enslaved villagers. As finale of the trilogy the artifact can be used to end the reign of terror of the evil overlords once and for all. In that case, the Black Fortress crumbles and the party together with the saved villagers have to escape. Lady Malcarra does her vile experiments to extract more life force out of each captive. Infighting among the overlords. Players might play the factions against each other. Multiple entry points: sewers, roosting deck, hide in cargo wagon (front gate).
P The Evil Overlords: Xargo, Vorkon and Malcarra, a trio of vampire like beings, who use ancient machinations (the "extraction engine") of the Black Fortress to suck the lifeforce out of their prisoners. They appear in all three parts as antagonists but escape until they are defeated in the finale. They have vampire-like powers but they are no real vampires!
LB Xargo - The Warlord
LB Vorkon - The High Priest
LB Malcarra - The Alchemist
H3 Notes
P What makes this adventure special? - multi-level fortress dungeon - This is the Death Star adventure in the trilogy - multiple possible endings (free slaves only, defeat one or two overlords, defeat all overlords and destroy fortress) - double meaning of the title, since the overlords themselves are also slaves to the ancient machinations. - "reverse the polarity!" - the artifact from part 2 will change the ancient machination to suck the life out of the overlords - Add one magic item - lots of secret doors and special rooms
